No More Scars

Scars.

We all have them, both physical and emotional. They are reminders of times in our lives when it hurt.

Jesus had scars.

He probably had some from when He was a kid. Maybe He fell out of a tree while playing with His brothers and friends. Maybe the carpentry tool slipped when He was helping His father.

But we do know Jesus had scars after the resurrection because He showed Thomas His hands and His side so that Thomas would believe Jesus had risen again (John 20:24–29). The scars showed the glory of what Christ did for us.

When Jesus, the Son, took on a human nature, He became one person with two natures—fully God and fully man. I know this is hard for us to conceive and understand.

Do you know what else? Jesus will always have His body. He is frequently referred to as the Lamb of God in the book of Revelation and is shown in bodily form. I believe that He will also always have the scars because they are the “eternal reminders of the glory of God through Christ’s redemptive work on the cross” (my pastor’s words).

That blows my mind. What a sacrifice He made for us!

In Philippians 3:20–21, it says, “But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.” (ESV)

So, we will have a glorified body in the new heavens and the new earth.

But no more scars.

But Jesus’ scars will remain forever, displaying the glory of what He accomplished for us.

I pray that no matter what scars you are feeling today, you can worship God for a future without hurt and pain.
